HE JOINS US NOW LIVE FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER WITH WHAT WE KNOW RIGHT NOW. RASHAD, WE’RE OUTSIDE OF THE LEC TONIGHT AS THINGS ON THE SCENE BEGAN TO BECOME INTENSE. NOW, AS WE ARRIVED THIS AFTERNOON, WE SAW A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE, INCLUDING MULTIPLE LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLES AND POLICE TAPE AROUND ONE SPECIFIC LOCATION. HERE’S WHAT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS HAPPENED TONIGHT. THEY TELL US THIS STARTED AS AN OFFICER SAW A MAN IN A CAR IN THE NICHOLTOWN AREA WHO HAD ACTIVE ARREST WARRANTS. THE OFFICERS TRIED TO ARREST HIM, BUT THE SUSPECT TRIED TO GET AWAY. THAT’S WHEN ANOTHER OFFICER SHOWED UP TO HELP THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS DURING A STRUGGLE, THE SUSPECT SHOWED A GUN AND THEN BIT ONE OF THE OFFICERS. POLICE DESCRIBE THAT FIGHT AS, QUOTE, SEVERE. THE OFFICERS THEN DEPLOYED A K-9 WHO THEN BIT THE SUSPECT. OFFICERS IDENTIFIED THAT SUSPECT AS A MARTY MILLER. HE, ALONG WITH THE TWO OFFICERS, WERE ALL TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. WE DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THEIR RECOVERY. NOW, OFFICERS SAY MILLER HAD 16 ACTIVE ARREST WARRANTS FOR SHOPLIFTING, AMONG OTHER THINGS, AND WE’RE TOLD HE WILL FACE ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR THE INCIDENT. Suspect arrested after biting a Greenville, South Carolina officer

The Greenville Police Department has arrested a man who bit an officer and was then apprehended after a K-9 was unleashed to return the bite. On Friday, Aug. 16, a patrolling officer identified a man with active arrest warrants operating a vehicle in the Nicholtown area of Greenville, South Carolina. The suspect identified as Marty Benjamin Miller was found standing outside his vehicle.When the officer attempted to arrest him, in an effort to escape, Miller tried to get into the driver's seat of the vehicle, officials said.Another officer arrived to assist as the situation escalated. Miller presented a firearm creating a "highly dangerous situation," but officers successfully disarmed him. However, during this encounter, Miller inflicted a "severe bite" on one of the officers causing injury.In response, a K-9 unit arrived and an officer deployed his K-9 partner, who subdued Miller by delivering a bite. The suspect was then arrested, while the officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.According to authorities, Miller also received medical treatment for the bite wound the K9 inflicted on him.GPD stated that at the time of Miller's arrest, the suspect had 16 active arrest warrants for shoplifting, one failure to stop for police (second offense and above), and one texting while driving charge. Miller is anticipated to face additional charges after the altercation including, resisting arrest, with assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a violent felon, and interfering with law enforcement officers.
